Fairchild Semiconductor, which has headquarters in South Portland, will temporarily shut down its offices and manufacturing facilities nationwide for the week of Thanksgiving because of falling demand for its products.
Patti Olson, a spokesperson for the semiconductor manufacturer, told Mainebiz this morning that the company's South Portland office building and its manufacturing facility would be part of the nationwide shutdown and closed the week of Thanksgiving. Fairchild on Monday reduced its projections for its fourth quarter revenue to between $338 and $360 million.
However, Olson said there could be work done at the South Portland manufacturing facility if demand picks up between now and Thanksgiving. "It's really fluid and we're monitoring things very closely and will absolutely be responsive to demand," Olson said. "Employees will be working more of that week as long as demand is there."
Fairchild employs roughly 1,000 people between its South Portland offices and manufacturing facility. While two days of that week are paid holidays, employees must take vacation time or borrow off their next year's vacation time during the shutdown.
