Ferry terminal nets federal upgrade

A $650,000 federal grant will help finance the $10.2 million upgrade of Rockland's ferry terminal.

The grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration to the Maine DOT, will help pay to update the dock to accommodate larger ships and increase the port's capacity, according to the Bangor Daily News. The project includes replacing an old transfer bridge with two new bridges that will allow two ferries to be loaded and unloaded at the same time.

The rehabilitation is expected to be complete in two months, according to the paper.
