Fontaine Family Team, a real estate firm with offices in Auburn and Scarborough, was sold to the second generation of daughters – Melissa Fontaine-Field, Angie Fontaine-Larochelle and Crystal Fontaine-Bergeron — in early 2021.
With a combined 70 years of leadership experience in real estate, the women provide a solid foundation on which to build the future of the business, according to a news release.
The business has over 60 agents and received the 2019 Maine Family Business of the Year award.
The team began with Brenda Fontaine, who became a real estate agent in 1983. She was joined by her husband Claude and daughter Melissa in 1992.
Over the years, other family members joined the team, including daughters Angie and Crystal, followed by sons-in-law Bill Bergeron and Clayton Larochelle, and grandson Dustin Larochelle.
In 2009, the company opened a brokerage and added agents from outside the Fontaine family.
Today the company has locations in Auburn and Scarborough. The new owners are preparing to expand into New Hampshire. Within the next few months, a Fontaine Team mobile app will become available, featuring agent contacts, Maine real estate listings and other benefits.
Brenda Fontaine will remain active as a consultant to her daughters and as a mentor and training coach for the team.
“The culture and environment the team and our clients have come to expect over the years remains the same,” she said in the release.
