Foreclosures down in October

Month-to-month foreclosure rates are decreasing in Maine and the nation, according to new data released today.

According to a press release from RealtyTrac, an online marketplace for foreclosure properties, Maine's foreclosure rate in October dropped just over 11% from the month before. Foreclosure rates, however, are still up 3.7% over last October. The data found that Maine had 363 houses with foreclosures filings in October, meaning that one in every 1,919 housing units received a filing last month. The national average is one in every 385 housing units received a filing in October.

Nationally, foreclosure activity has dropped for three consecutive months, according to the release.
