Former AG files for gubernatorial run

Steven Rowe, the state's former attorney general and House speaker, has officially entered the 2010 race for governor.

Rowe filed papers Tuesday with the Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election practices and plans to make a formal announcement of his candidacy at a later date, WGAN reported. Rowe is running as a Democrat and will not be accepting Clean Election funds.

A graduate of West Point and the University of Maine School of Law, Rowe, 56, served four terms in the House, including one as speaker, and as attorney general from 2001 to 2008. He now works for Portland-based law firm Verrill Dana.
