Franklin Community Health to join MaineHealth
The Farmington-based Franklin Community Health Network, which includes Franklin Memorial Hospital, has voted to join the MaineHealth system, based in Portland.
The vote approves making MaineHealth the parent organization of the Franklin health network and Farmington hospital, a merger that still requires state approval. In a press release, Franklin Community Health said the decision was the result of economic downturn and challenges adapting to national health care reform.
Both organizations said they will begin an application to the state for a Certificate of Need for the merger and an antitrust review, which they expect will lead to a completed merger by late 2014.
MaineHealth’s network includes Maine Medical Center in Portland, Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast.
