It's officially farmers' market season and the Woodfords Corner Farmers' Market, a neighborhood nonprofit that launched in 2023, opened for its second season on May 30 in Portland.

The market will feature over a dozen vendors, providing a range of items and services — produce, meat, baked goods, ice cream and even onsite knife sharpening.

“How local can you get," said Teresa Valliere, president of Friends of Woodfords Corner. “As a neighborhood market, not only do we complement the bigger farmers' markets by working with newer farms, we also give more people another walkable option to access locally grown food.”

The market will operate on Thursdays, 3:30-6:30 p.m., until Oct. 24, at 202 Woodford St. The market accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) electronic benefits transfer cards, Maine Harvest Bucks and Bumper Crop certificates are all accepted.

What else is going on in the food world?

Angoor Wine Bar, a self-pour wine bar, officially opened its doors on May 30 at 100 Fore St. in Portland. Guests are issued a wine card, which then allows them to pick wines from wine dispensaries. The machines allow a 2-ounce, 4-ounce or 6-ounce pour. The personal ID digitally keeps track to assemble the final bill. Angoor’s hours are Wednesday through Thursday from 3-9 p.m., Friday from 3-10 p.m., Saturday from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.

Anjon’s Ristorante, a longtime Italian staple located on U.S. Route 1 in Scarborough, adjacent to the marsh, announced via social media that it will be returning. Owner John DiSanto said in the post that he hopes to reopen on June 15. They closed the business in 2019 after 65 years.

College of the Atlantic Beech Hill Farm opened for the season on May 28. The farmstand will be stocked with fresh, local, organic vegetables, flowers, baked goods, meat, dairy and more. It also sells a wide array of vegetable, herb and flower seedlings, just in time for summer planting season. The farm is located at 171 Beech Hill Road in Mount Desert. The farmstand is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., through the fall.
