Frontier Airlines, which bills itself as a low-cost carrier, this week announced new service between the Portland International Jetport and Miami, aimed at winter getaways.
The service launches Nov. 21 and will be offered three times a week.
Frontier says it will offer introductory fares of $49, provided you fly on Monday or Wednesday, with blackout dates around Thanksgiving and the holidays.
Frontier's other service from Portland is to Atlanta and Philadelphia, as well as three Florida destinations (Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa) and two in the Carolinas (Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Raleigh-Durham, N.C.).
The Jetport has offered a flurry of new flights this year, including a greater range of southern destinations.
After a challenging year of travel and uncertainty going forward, the pandemic is clearly on the minds of airlines. With mandatory mask requirements in airports and on airplanes, like other airlines, Frontier said it has added HEPA filters "capable of capturing respiratory virus particles at more than 99.9% efficiency — similar to those used in hospital environments."
Frontier was in the news earlier this week after an unruly Philadelphia-to-Miami passenger was duct taped to his seat after alleged inappropriate contact with flight attendants. He was arrested in Miami on three counts of misdemeanor battery, USA Today reported.
Shares of Frontier's parent company, Denver-based Frontier Group Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq: ULCC), were trading at $14.93, up 1.43%, in mid-morning trading. The company has a market capitalization of $3.22 billion.
