Green energy firm looks at L-P mill

A Kennebunk waste-to-energy firm is in discussions to reopen the former Lousiana-Pacific mill in Baileyville.

Baetel Corp., which launched last February, has entered into a joint venture agreement with St. Croix Green Energy LLC to generate electricity and fuel in the mill, and to create a green business and energy park there, according to Baetel's website. Damar Dore, vice president of ICS of Maine Inc., which holds the option on the mill, told the Bangor Daily News yesterday that a final agreement has yet to be reached with Baetel. It is unclear how many jobs the company might create should it take over the space.

Enligna AG of Germany, a wood pellet manufacturer, had also considered moving into the mill, but those discussions ended when L-P restricted the amount and type of wood the company could use, the paper reported.
