Hammond Lumber acquires Lewiston co.

Belgrade-based Hammond Lumber has acquired the assets of Pineland Lumber Co. in Lewiston for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition makes Hammond the only locally owned independent lumber dealer in the greater Lewiston-Auburn area, according to a press release from the company. Hammond has nine retail stores, including one in Auburn that is three miles from the Pineland Lumber facility in Lewiston. Pineland President Neal Ouellette and co-owner Ruth Gallagher will assume positions at Hammond Lumber, and all Pineland employees will be offered jobs there as well. The company lists 15 employees on its website.

Besides Auburn and Belgrade, Hammond Lumber has stores in Bangor, Brunswick, Fairfield, Farmington, Greenville, Portland and Skowhegan.
