HealthInfoNet wins $1M grant

HealthInfoNet, the state's electronic health information exchange, has won nearly $1 million in additional federal grants.

The $968,275 in funding from the Health Information Technology Extension Program will help the organization expand use of electronic medical records to more health care providers, according to a press release. The bulk of the money, more than $836,000, will be used to ensure that primary care physician practices' use of electronic records meets new federal requirements, while $132,000 will help 22 critical access and rural hospitals adopt and use electronic records and health information exchange technology.

Launched in 2009, HealthInfoNet is one of the country's 62 regional extension centers and the only one in Maine. Last year, the organization received $6.6 million in federal stimulus funds.
