Voting is now open for the 2018 Portland Buy Local Indie Biz Awards.
Portlanders had the opportunity to nominate their favorite businesses and can vote for their top choices the campaign sponsored by the Portland Independent Business and Community Alliance. Nominees have been named in the following categories:
Flavor of Portland: This food or beverage-centric business deserves recognition for their excellence in providing delicious and distinctive tastes to remember.
Healthy Portland: This health or wellness-focused business supports the well-being of our community.
Environmental Hero: This business serves as an inspiration for sustainable business practices, products or services.
Portland's Best Kept Secret: This hidden independent gem of Portland is too outstanding to be kept quiet for long.
Portland Ambassador: Which local business is creating a welcoming environment by providing visitors or new Mainers with exemplary Portland experiences, goods, or services?
Made in Portland: This Portland based business produces a product made right here in Portland that exemplifies quality craftsmanship, innovation and dedication to our local economy.
Business to Business: This business offers unique and/or exemplary services to other businesses in Portland and beyond.
Creative Crusader: A visionary in the Portland Arts scene, this creative business, collective, gallery, museum, venue or artist has made you take note in 2018.
Best New Business: Fresh on the scene (open less than a year), this up and coming Portland independent business is your new "go to" for their buzzworthy services.
Portland Icon: This beloved independent business or non-profit has had such a monumental influence on the city itself, that its hard to even imagine Portland without them. This business embodies the character, originality, spirit, and lifestyle of Portland.
Local Love: What did we forget? Nominate a business deserving recognition that may not fit into one of the other categories.
Voting is open to the public though Sept. 15 and can be done online at www.portlandbuylocal.org
This year's Indie Biz Awards will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Portland House of Music and Events.
A new feature this year is the introduction of a “Hall of Fame” for organizations and businesses who have won three or more Indie Biz Awards in the past. The following businesses will be inducted into the new “Indie Biz Hall of Fame” and as such will not be eligible for other awards: Coffee by Design, Garbage to Garden, Longfellow Books, Micucci, Portland Food Co-op, Portland Maine Farmers’ Market, Portland Museum of Art, Portland Trails, Rosemont Market + Bakery, SPACE Gallery.
Portland Buy Local is the campaign of the Portland Independent Business and Community Alliance. With over 400 business, nonprofit, and individual members, its mission is to support locally owned, independent businesses in Portland to maintain the community’s unique character, provide continuous opportunities for entrepreneurs, build community economic strength, and prevent the displacement of community-based businesses by national and global chains.
The Giving Guide helps nonprofits have the opportunity to showcase and differentiate their organizations so that businesses better understand how they can contribute to a nonprofit’s mission and work.
