Hinckley lays off 50

A Southwest Harbor boat builder on Tuesday laid off around 50 employees from its jet boat production plant in Trenton.
Hinckley Co. employs more than 600 people at sites around the state and the country, and employed 250 at the Trenton facility. The layoffs are part of a company effort to cut its entire workforce by 9%, the Ellsworth American reported.
A decline in orders for Hinckley’s popular $750,000 jet-powered picnic boat was blamed for the lay offs. The company did not provide details to the paper on any severance packages that might have been offered to the dismissed workers.
