Hollywood Casino Hotel & Raceway Bangor, a casino and harness racing track, has installed six Tesla EV charging stations.
The charging stations were installed this week and are on the hotel entrance side of the 2nd floor of the parking garage and are available for use 24/7.
The casino isn’t the only home to the EV charger in Bangor. Some area restaurants, community locations and convenience stores are now equipped with charging stations.
“We are excited to be able to offer these charging stations to our visitors and to the greater community,” said Austin Muchemore, general manager of Hollywood Casino. “Not only is offering this service the right thing to do, but we have seen a growing adoption of EV in this area and in general. More and more people are coming to Maine and to Hollywood Casino who are driving EVs and we want them to be able to visit our casino and restaurants and stay in our hotel without worrying about where they can find a charge for their vehicle.”
Maine has a growing number of electric cars, according to the state Department of Energy. Through December 2022, Maine had nearly 5,000 electric cars registered, up from 3,000 in 2021.
EVs are a small, but growing a segment of the overall car population in Maine. Mainebiz reported in 2021, that out of the 65,000 new cars sold in 2021, 2.4% were electric, which nonetheless was double the percentage in 2020, 1.2%.
According to Tesla, the Destination charger can charge a Tesla for around 44 miles of range for every hour of charging. Most Tesla EVs can go between 262 to 405 miles on a full charge, depending on the model of vehicle and battery.
