Home sales rise 10% in November

Home sales last month jumped nearly 10% over the previous year, while the median sales price stayed relatively flat.

A total of 856 existing single-family homes were sold in Maine in November, a 9.6% rise over November 2010, according to a press release from the Maine Real Estate Information System Inc. The median sales price was $169,000, a less than 1% drop over last year. Home sales have increased over 2010 for five consecutive months, thanks to lower prices and low interest rates, according to the release. Home sales by county ranged from a 64% rise in Washington County to a 21% drop in Franklin County.

Nationwide, homes sales rose 12.9% in November, while the price decreased 4% to $164,100. In the Northeast, sales rose 7.7% while the median sales price inched down 0.1% to $240,200.
