House reverses vote on gambling measure
House lawmakers on Friday reversed their position on a three-pronged gambling bill, voting against putting the measure on a statewide ballot.
The House voted 83-59 against a ballot question that would have put three casino proposals to voters in November, according to the Bangor Daily News. The House's vote against the measure came only a day after legislators voted 81-69 in favor of it to allow for more debate. More than a dozen Democrats switched their votes Friday following discussion among the parties in caucus.
LD 1808 would put a resort casino in Oxford County, a casino in Washington County run by the Passamaquoddy Tribe and table games at Hollywood Slots in Bangor in a single question. Proponents of the three proposals agreed to push for a question that would include all three measures last month. The Oxford casino, proposed by Black Bear Entertainment LLC, has already earned enough signatures to appear on the November ballot. The Senate is expected to vote on the three-part measure this week.
