Northern Light Health, which last week announced the resignation of its president and CEO, has hired a new president at its flagship hospital.
Rand O’Leary on Dec. 9 will become president of Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, a role that has been filled since March on an interim basis by Tim Dentry, according to a news release Monday. O’Leary will also serve as a Northern Light Health senior vice president, reporting to Dentry, chief operating officer of the health care system.
O’Leary was selected following a national search with multiple candidates and over 100 stakeholders participating in interviews of the finalists, the release said.
He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in health care, and was most recently the chief executive for Peace Health Oregon Network. Previously, he served as senior vice president and chief operating officer at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit and Borgess Health Alliance in Kalamazoo, Mich.
“Rand is a dynamic leader,” said Northern Light Health President and CEO Michelle Hood. “He has a strong background in leading organizations of similar complexity to Eastern Maine Medical Center which will allow us to benefit from his past experiences from day one of his joining Northern Light Health.”
On Thursday, Hood announced that she will leave Brewer-based Northern Light “in the new year” to become executive vice president and chief operating officer of the American Hospital Association. Hood has served in her current role for nearly 14 years. She did not give a specific date for her departure.
Northern Light includes eight other hospitals in addition to 411-bed EMMC; eight nursing homes; 37 primary care sites; and a variety of health care services throughout Maine. The system employs more than 12,000 people.
