Rock Row, the 110-acre complex of shops, restaurants, apartments, offices, and medical space under development in Westbrook, will soon add to its growing menu of restaurant offerings.

The newest food-focused tenant to sign on, announced Thursday, is LB Kitchen, a Portland-based cafe and market that will lease a 600-square-foot space in Rock Row's medical campus.

Other eateries at Rock Row include Cowbell, Big Fin Poké, and the Chick Fil-A, Firehouse Subs and Starbucks chains. There's also a Market Basket supermarket.

“Waterstone values the diverse palates of the community, and our offerings reflect that with the broad range of eateries,” said Andrew Gendron, marketing director of Waterstone Properties Inc., the Massachusetts developer of Rock Row, told Mainebiz.

The restaurant addition comes as the $600 million complex builds out the medical and research campus, anchored by New England Cancer Specialists.

“As we develop our medical campus, we also believe that food is medicine, and in a health and wellness setting, we are delighted to welcome LB Kitchen to the medical campus,” Gendron added. “We are always looking for local, community-oriented chefs and food-related tenants who are passionate about food and believe in that mission.”

In Portland, Bryna Gootkind and Chef Lee Farrington own and operate the LB Kitchen Café and Mini-Mart, which opened in 2017. Last year, it moved a few doors away to its current location, 255 Congress St. The business employs 35 people.

The Rock Row branch will be LB's second location and expects to hire 15 to 20 people, according to Gootkind.

The new branch will be a combination café and small retail market designed by Portland’s Mey & Co., with Portland menu favorites as well as pre-made grain, salad and breakfast bowls, sandwiches and wraps.

Coffee drinks sourced from Rwanda Bean Co., tea and functional beverages will also be on the menu.
