The Dempsey Center is the latest tenant to sign a lease at the medical and research campus of the Rock Row development in Westbrook.
Founded in 2008 by actor Patrick Dempsey and his family, the center offers free counseling, integrative therapies, wellness programs and other support for people affected by cancer.
The center, which is headquartered in Lewiston and has a branch in South Portland, will take about 15,000 square feet of space at Rock Row. Mark Malone of Malone Commercial Brokers brokered the lease.
The center is outgrowing its South Portland space, a spokesperson with Malone told Mainebiz.
Dempsey Center CEO Cara Valentino said in a news release, “Rock Row’s vision of an integrated medical community aligns perfectly with our holistic approach. The opportunity to create a healing environment that brings nature inside and offers ample space for our programs was incredibly compelling.”
Rock Row is a 110-acre neighborhood of shops, restaurants, apartments, offices and medical space under development by Waterstone Properties of Needham, Mass. The medical and research campus includes a 179,365-square-foot office complex and a 20,000-square-foot health services building, set to be completed by early 2025.
“Our new center will continue to offer core services — counseling, integrative therapies and comfort programs — in a setting that supports our clients’ emotional and physical needs,” Valentino said.
The Rock Row space will be designed with a goal of enhancing the healing process with natural elements, a neutral color palette and a welcoming atmosphere, the news release said.
The move may also help foster collaboration with other medical providers nearby. Other signed tenants at the campus include New England Cancer Specialists, Rayus Radiology, and Plastic and Hand Surgical Associates.
“We are excited about co-locating our team in a space designed specifically for our needs,” Valentino said. “This new facility will allow us to continue our programs and introduce new opportunities for our clients to experience healing.”
