InterMed PA, one of Maine’s largest medical practices, has named a new CEO, Roger Poitras, to succeed Dan McCormack.
Poitras brings 35 years of clinical, operational and business development experience to the role, InterMed said in a news release Thursday. Most recently, he served as chief operating officer of Pioneer Medical Group, a 90-physician organization in Tampa, Fla. Earlier, he was chief practice officer at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, where he led a team of 180 medical staff.
Poitras holds a doctorate in health administration, as well as an MBA and a master’s degree in human resources. He worked as a licensed practical nurse early in his career, and served as a surgery team leader and in critical care nursing.
His predecessor at InterMed, McCormack, joined Martin’s Point Health Care last year and now serves there as chief operating officer, delivery systems.
InterMed selected Poitras after a national search, a spokesman told Mainebiz.
In a memo to staff, InterMed President Dr. Phyllidia Ku-Ruth commented: “Roger brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, and we are thrilled to have him join InterMed. He’s the right person to lead us as we emerge from the pandemic and renew our focus on strategic planning.”
In addition, InterMed announced it has promoted Stephanie Mills to chief legal and compliance officer and Dr. Michele Delenick as chief of internal medicine.
InterMed is headquartered in the recently sold InterMed Tower, a landmark on Marginal Way in Portland, and has primary care centers in South Portland and Yarmouth. The medical group was founded in 1993 and employs over 850 people.
