Jackson Lab hires new CEO

The Jackson Laboratory has named Edison Liu of Singapore as its new president and CEO.

Liu comes to the Bar Harbor-based biotechnology organization from the Genome Institute of Singapore, a research institute he founded in 2001, according to a press release. Prior to founding the institute, he was scientific director of the National Cancer Institute's Division of Clinical Sciences in Bethesda, Md. Liu will assume the role of head of The Jackson Lab on Jan. 2.

Former CEO Richard Woychik left in January to become deputy director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in North Carolina. Since then, Executive Vice President Charles Hewett and Associate Director Robert Braun have shared administrative responsibilities and will continue to do so until Liu begins his job next year.
