Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty/Laflin & Wolfington Team in Farmingdale launched a campaign to donate $50,000 each to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital and to United Way of Kennebec Valley.
The team said it would set aside a portion of commissions earned from each completed transaction to donate to the two Maine nonprofit organizations.
"Our team decided to support these two organizations after hearing both of them present to us on the incredible impact they have in our state,” Harrison Wolfington, co-owner of the firm, said in a news release.
The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center was named in honor of First Lady Barbara Bush for her longstanding commitment to children's issues around the world.
The hospital was founded in 1995. Bush, who passed away in 2018, was a part-time Maine resident and advocate for literacy and the well-being of young people. From routine check-ups and immunizations to the treatment of life-threatening pediatric conditions, the hospital provides comprehensive, family-centered health care for all of northern New England. The hospital has 109 beds, including 31 Level III neonatal intensive care unit beds, 20 Level II continuing care nursery beds and eight pediatric intensive care unit beds.
United Way of Kennebec Valley is a nonprofit organization serving all 29 communities in Kennebec County. It partners with 49 local programs to provide a better quality of life for people experiencing emergencies, hardships and personal challenges in those communities. Since 1955, United Way of Kennebec Valley has been combining forces with Kennebec Valley nonprofits, businesses, government agencies and individual donors to address the area’s pressing challenges.
More than 31,082 — or 1 in 4 — Kennebec Valley people were helped by United Way programs and initiatives in the last year.
“It’s a true team effort — the agents contribute a portion of their commission and our company matches,” said Wolfington. “We just finished a $100,000 donation campaign for Family Violence Project, which feels good. It took us a while to get there.”
The new campaign is expected to take four to five years to complete – but it could be less because the company is growing, Wolfington noted.
“We talk about the nonprofits we partner with a lot – their missions, the services they provide, the impact they have,” he continued. “We talk to a lot of people in this business. We built it into our daily business activities to help spread the word about the work they're doing every time we meet with a buyer or a seller. For us, it's more than just a donation, it gives our team something to rally around."
Your Home Sold Guaranteed Realty/Laflin & Wolfington Team has served thousands of families in buying and selling properties all over Maine since opening in 2012.
