Last two pot dispensaries picked

The state Department of Health and Human Services has selected the final two nonprofit organizations to operate medical marijuana dispensaries in southern and Down East Maine.

Safe Harbor, a new nonprofit founded by former business owner and Poland selectman Glenn Peterson, plans to open a dispensary in Biddeford near Southern Maine Medical Center, according to the Portland Press Herald. The city's planning board is scheduled to hold a public hearing tonight on zoning changes for the proposal. The state also approved Primary Organic Therapy Inc. to operate a dispensary in the Washington County town of Whitneyville, according to the Bangor Daily News. The nonprofit plans to approach the town about locating in a former doctor's office on Main Street.

The state in July approved three nonprofits to operate six dispensaries in the state  but reopened applications for York and Washington and Hancock counties after none of the applicants met the necessary criteria. The second round netted a total of 17 applications.
