Saco Defense wins $17M gun contract

The U.S. Army has awarded Saco Defense a more than $17 million machine gun contract.

The $17.44 million contract for General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products will fund the conversion of 6,000 M2 machine guns to M2A1 machine guns, according to a press release from U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The production work will occur at the General Dynamics facility in Saco. The work is expected to be completed by April 2012.

Last month, Saco Defense won a $25 million Army contract to make lightweight grenade launchers, and in May, the Navy awarded the facility a $10 million contract for machine guns used on fighter aircraft.
