Lincoln targeted for state's largest wind farm

A Massachusetts firm is proposing a wind farm in Lincoln that would be Maine's largest.

Evergreen Wind Power LLC, a subsidiary of First Wind in Massachusetts, hopes to spend $22 million to build the 40-turbine Rollins Wind project in four towns -- Burlington, Lee, Lincoln and Winn -- according to the Bangor Daily News. It could produce as much as 60 megawatts of electricity annually, enough to power 23,000 New England homes, and make it the most productive wind farm in the state. Evergreen, whose parent company was known as UPC Wind until May, also operates the Mars Hill wind farm in Aroostook County and the 38-turbine Stetson Mountain wind farm under construction between Danforth and Springfield.

Evergreen expects to pursue permitting the project by late summer, and construction could wrap up as early as the end of 2009, according to the paper.
