Live Lobster owner could owe money to former partner

A federal judge has issued a recommendation to award $235,000 to a former official with Live Lobster Co., and has given the official the go-ahead to pursue further awards from company owner Antonio Bussone. Chelsea, Mass.-based Live Lobster Co. recently expanded into Maine, with Bussone serving as the operation's public face.

Alan Brown, the company's former general manager and current minority shareholder former, sued the company for unfair termination. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, seeks to recover money he says the company owes him as part of a 2010 settlement agreement. Leo Sorokin, chief federal magistrate judge, said firm partner Alleandro Verrini should award Brown $235,000, the default judgment because Verrini has not appeared in court, the Bangor Daily News reported. The recommendation also says Brown "may pursue judgments for the same amounts from the remaining defendants," including Bussone. Brown's attorney, John Tocci, said his client does plan to pursue the claim against Bussone.

The lawsuit is one of two the company is facing. In April, three weeks after freezing its accounts, TD Bank sued the Gouldsboro lobster processor for $3.4 million, alleging the company hasn't paid creditors and is attempting to conceal proceeds. The company hasn't yet filed a response to the lawsuit.
