Maine gets $5.6M in federal health care grants
Four health care groups in Maine will receive over $5.6 million in federal grants to support increased exercise, healthy dieting and decreased tobacco use in rural areas across the state.
In total, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $70 million nationwide to 40 organizations through Community Transformation Grants, aimed at improving health in small communities, according to a press release.
The four groups in Maine to receive funds include MaineHealth, MaineGeneral, Healthy Acadia and the Maine Development Foundation.
MaineHealth received the largest award in the state of nearly $2.5 million that it plans to distribute through local health care partners in Androscoggin, Franklin, Oxford, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc and Waldo counties.
The Maine Development Foundation will receive $1.6 million; Healthy Acadia will receive $1.3 million; and Maine General Medical Center will receive $200,000.
