Portland-based law firm Verrill Dana LLP has rebranded itself as simply "Verrill."
The company announced the name change, along with a new logo and website, this week.
The firm was founded in 1862 by Byron Decreny Verrill, a teacher-turned-lawyer from Oxford County. The "Dana" in Verrill Dana came from trusts and estates attorney John Fessenden Dana. The firm has had more than a dozen name changes over the years.
Now, it's tweaking the name again.
"With more than 150 years of history, it's important to evolve," managing partner K.C. Jones said in an Aug. 21 news release. "While our core values and award-winning client service will remain the same, this new look and website better reflect our firm today and the growth we have experienced over the years."
Gretchen Johnson, the firm's marketing director, said the new website is easier for clients and prospective employees to navigate and search for resources including attorney contact information, job openings and the firm's many blogs and podcasts.
The firm has seen significant growth over the past decade in terms of attorney numbers as well as practice areas and industries. Today, Verrill has more than 130 attorneys and seven offices, serving clients around the globe in various sectors.
"There are some aspects of familiarity with our new look, such as the gold color we carried through in our refresh," Johnson said. "The combination of our traditional and more modern elements mirrors the changing demographics of our firm and practices."
In Maine, Verrill has offices in Portland and Augusta. Other locations are in Boston; Westport, Conn.; Providence, R.I.; White Plains, N.Y.; and Washington, D.C.
