Maine lawyers will lead Hannaford case

A federal judge in Portland has named two Maine attorneys to lead a potential class-action lawsuit against Hannaford Bros. related to the recent security breach that exposed millions of its customers to possible fraud.

U.S. District Court Judge D. Brock Hornby appointed Peter Murray, of Murray, Plump & Murray in Portland, and Lewis Saul, who has offices in Portland and New York, according to the Portland Press Herald. The appointments are for at least the early part of the case, which Hornby has not certified yet as a class action.

After Scarborough-based Hannaford in March revealed the computer breach, which compromised 4.2 million customer credit and debit card numbers, lawyers in several states filed two dozen lawsuits against the company, the paper said. Murray and Saul now must combine those cases into one complaint by Sept. 12, the paper said.
