Developer plans to raze Atrium

The developer behind the revitalized Auburn Mall recently purchased a dilapidated motel and its nine-acre site at Cook's Corner in Brunswick with plans to raze it for an as-yet unspecified redevelopment.

George Schott, of Greene, told the Times Record he bought the former Atrium Motel Lodging Complex as an investment and is open to ideas and offers. The building, whose former owner filed for bankruptcy in 2006, was priced at $100,000, the paper reported, but a potential buyer would have had to pay an additional $130,000 in tax liens.

Schott did not disclose his purchase price but said the sale was "very, very involved because of a bunch of loans, foreclosures, liens and other issues."
