Maine leads in per capita personal income growth

Maine led the New England region in per capita personal income growth in 2008, according to preliminary estimates from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Maine's per capita personal income was $35,381 in 2008, a 4.1% increase from $33,991 in 2007. That growth rate surpassed any in the region and placed Maine 9th overall, according to the BEA. The national growth rate in 2008 was 2.9%. Per capita personal income is calculated as the total personal income of the residents of a state divided by the population of the state.
