Maine Feb. home sales dip 22%

Maine home sales decreased 22% from February 2008 to February 2009, while the median sales price dropped 17% during the same period, according to new data from the Maine Real Estate Information System.

In February, Realtors sold 433 single-family homes, down from the 555 homes sold in February 2008. The median sales price for those homes decreased to $158,000, from $190,000 in February 2008.

Nationally, in February there was a 3.6% decrease in the sale of homes and a median sales price of $164,600, a 15% decrease, according to the National Association of Realtors. Sales in the Northeast decreased 14.9% and the regional median sales price dipped 4.8% to $251,200.
