MaineGeneral Health is moving into an empty, former pharmacy in downtown Waterville.
Augusta-based MaineGeneral has signed a 15-year lease with the owner of the former Rite-Aid at the intersection of College Avenue and Main Street, according to a press release from the health care organization. The 11,000-square-foot building will house a family medicine practice and lab services, which have outgrown their current location at Railroad Square. Kennebec Family practice will move into the space later this year and be renamed Elmwood Primary Care, to honor the Elmwood Hotel, which stood on that location for more than 100 years. The lease rate is $8 a square foot, according to the Morning Sentinel. Rite-Aid relocated to a new building across the street last year.
MaineGeneral plans to start renovating the building and add three family physicians to Elmwood's staff later this summer, with a goal of recruiting a total of 11 primary care doctors over the next few years, according to the release.
