Me. 3rd for gaming revenue growth in 2012

Maine ranked third nationally for revenue growth at its commercial casinos in 2012, according to an annual survey by the American Gambling Association.

The report, issued this week, showed Maine's gross gaming revenue increased 66.9%, from $59.5 million in 2011 to $99.2 million last year.

Maine, which trailed only Kansas and Maryland for percentage growth of casino revenues, had a new casino in Oxford Hills open last year and also saw Bangor's Hollywood Casino expand its gaming floor to add table games in March, which casino officials told the Bangor Daily News added around $6 million in revenue for the year.

Nationally, the report found that gaming revenues rose 4.8% in 2012 to $37.3 billion across the 23 states where commercial gaming is allowed.
