MMG Insurance, a regional property and casualty insurance company headquartered in Presque Isle, has pledged $50,000 in support of the proposed new Husson College of Business building on the university’s Bangor campus and technology improvements to the distance learning capabilities at Husson’s Presque Isle campus.
“MMG is proud to make this investment in our students and in the infrastructure that will serve as such a valuable resource to them,” Larry Shaw, MMG president and CEO, said in a news release. “By enhancing distance learning technology and eliminating the obstacles posed by travel for those in Aroostook County, we are delivering on the need to bridge the gap between interest and opportunity. These assets are vital to ensuring we are able to develop a skilled workforce that can lead Maine into the future.”
Husson’s College of Business is comprised of four separate schools: a School of Accounting; a School of Business and Management; a School of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management; and a School of Legal Studies. Its proposed new $16 million state-of-the-art building will allow for interdisciplinary opportunities between schools and programs, and help the university continue to attract the talented students who will lead us into the future.
In April, Husson University announced a $4 million matching gift from the Harold Alfond Foundation, the largest outright gift in its 119-year history, to go toward the construction of a new College of Business building on its Bangor campus. In its matching gift, the foundation pledged to provide $1 for every $2 donated to Husson for the project, up to a total of $4 million.
At that time, Husson reported approximately $1.7 million has already been given or pledged to this project.
“We are proud to have MMG’s support as we work toward creating a new home for Maine’s largest College of Business,” Robert A. Clark, president of Husson University, said in a news release. “Beyond financial support, MMG has provided career opportunities and internships to Husson students. It is part of the company’s steadfast commitment to helping develop the next generation of financial services professionals.”
