National Semi furlough planned

National Semiconductor in South Portland will idle its South Portland plant for two weeks, starting Friday.

The company's approximately 450 employees will be involved in paid training during the first week, and will be furloughed for the second with the option of using vacation time during that period. National Semi is idling the plant because of a decrease in demand for its products, according to Current Publishing.

National Semi cut about 40 positions in March due to the downturn. The temporary closure will run from April 10 through April 26, Current reported.
