New Maine Potato Board leader aims to drive innovation

The Maine Potato Board, based in Presque Isle, has hired Jeannie Tapley as its new executive director. 

Tapley succeeds Don Flannery, who retired in October.

“I am excited to take on this role and drive innovation, support Maine’s growers and foster collaboration across the industry,” said Tapley. “Working hard in those areas and addressing challenges as they arise will help us succeed.” 

In this new role, Tapley will support potato growers and foster collaboration. The board said that the appointment signals a new focus on addressing challenges and seizing opportunities.

Tapley been with the organization for more than a decade, starting out as an administrative assistant. Later, as director of operations, she oversaw financial management and human resources grant administration. 

During the pandemic, she helped the organization maintain operations and manage financial losses. 

In addition to her work with the Maine Potato Board, Tapley advocates for Maine agriculture, participating in state and national organizations such as the National Potato Council and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. She regularly provides testimony on legislative issues related to the industry and promotes agricultural education

In her community, Tapley serves as school board chair and volunteers with youth sports programs.

“Jeannie’s leadership, expertise, and unwavering dedication position her as an ideal choice to guide the industry forward,” said Robbie Irving, past president of the Maine Potato Board. “In her time here, Jeannie has proven herself as an indispensable leader.”
