New music venue planned for Waterville

A Waterville business owner is planning to open a new music venue in the city and run for the mayoral seat left vacant by Governor-elect Paul LePage.

Erik Thomas, owner of printing company Digital ImageWorks, plans to open a club featuring live, local music by New Year's Eve, according to the Morning Sentinel. Thomas' venue will open in a Silver Street location most recently home to a nightclub called Glo, which shut down Oct. 31 after less than a year in business. Thomas, who also books concerts at various state venues including Port City Music Hall in Portland and the Waterville Opera House, will undertake renovations at the building and seek permits to operate the music venue, according to the paper.

Thomas, a member of the city's planning board, also told the paper he plans to run for mayor as a Democrat when LePage resigns to become Maine's next governor in January.
