Northern Light Mercy Hospital has added a woman with a master's in nurse-midwifery from Vanderbilt University to its team of midwives.
Caitlin Sloan joins Northern Light Mercy Midwives from Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where she worked as a full-scope nurse-midwife.
Sloan earned a Master of Science in nurse-midwifery from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville, Tenn., and a Bachelor of Arts in public health from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. She earned credentials from the American Midwifery Certification Board and is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
Northern Light has a fully certified and independent team of nurse midwives working with pregnant and non-pregnant patients to provide a comfortable, intimate and caring atmosphere for women of all ages. Services include annual exams, preconception counseling, care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum care, and care throughout menopause.
The hospital now has six midwives on its roster.
“We are very excited to welcome Caitlin to Mercy’s midwifery team,” said Charlie Therrien, president of Northern Light Mercy Hospital. “Since we consolidated operations on one campus a year ago, we have been able to bring all of our women’s health services to our Fore River Parkway campus. From mammography and women’s imaging, to birthing, OBGYN, midwifery, and breast care, Mercy’s women’s health services are all now in one convenient location. This makes it easier than ever to coordinate care that fits the needs of each of our patients.”
Northern Light Mercy Hospital, an acute care, nonprofit hospital in Portland, is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. The hospital has provided midwifery care to the greater Portland community for over 30 years. Northern Light Mercy Hospital was ranked No. 6 among the largest market share in the 2023 Mainebiz Book of Lists, ranked by the number of licensed acute care beds.
