This may be the season of giving, but Norway Savings Bank gave more than $1 million to nonprofits in need in 2023, according to a year-end tally released Wednesday.
In total, the bank awarded $1,055,500 to 355 nonprofit organizations in 2023. Out of that amount, $750,000 was paid out this year, while the remaining $305,500 will be distributed in the form of multi-year grants.
The $1 million-plus total includes $20,000 in surprise “Helping Hands" gifts this month to 19 nonprofits providing nutrition, fuel, school supplies and other necessities to community members in Oxford, Androscoggin, Cumberland, York and Sagadahoc counties.
“At this time of year, members of our communities may struggle with the high costs of food, heating oil and other essentials.” said Dan Walsh, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank. “These Helping Hands gifts are our way of providing some assistance to nonprofits focusing on addressing those immediate needs.”
