Official Blaine House Christmas trees arrive in Augusta

Gov. Janet Mills celebrate the season with the arrival of Christmas trees from Maine farms, due to be delivered today to the Blaine House in Augusta, the Maine governor's official residence.

Two of the trees — 8-foot and 7-foot balsam firs — were grown by Finestkind Tree Farms, a family-owned operation in Dover-Foxcroft. The third tree, a 6-foot balsam fir, was grown by Boiling Spring Tree Farm in Dayton, which is also a family-run tree farm. The balsam trees were delivered to the Blaine House by Ryan Liberty, vice president of the Maine Christmas Tree Association.

The taller trees will be featured on the first floor of the mansion, and the 6-foot tree will be placed in the governor's upstairs residence.

Both Christmas tree farms won awards at the People's Choice Christmas Tree exhibition, chosen by fairgoers at this year's Fryeburg Fair. At Mills' request, the winners of the category presented trees to the Blaine House last year as well and will continue the annual tradition.

The Maine Christmas Tree Association is a nonprofit organization of family farms that produce trees and wreath products for sale during the Christmas season. Since being incorporated in 1962, the organization has promoted real Christmas trees and shared information about fresh Maine Christmas trees and wreaths.
