Pot distributor pursuing settlement of labor claims

Federal labor investigators said they’ve found “reasonable cause” that Maine’s largest medical marijuana distributor violated worker protection laws after employees complained that their efforts to unionize were actively opposed.

The Portland Press Herald reported, however, that the company and its employees are within days of a settlement to avoid civil action against the company, according to an attorney for the Wellness Connection of Maine and an official with the New England Office of the National Labor Relations Board.

The complaints came after workers raised concerns about pesticide use at the company’s dispensaries and interference with the workers’ right to unionize. The newspaper reported the New England Office of the labor board’s finding of “reasonable cause” came after reviewing more than 20 complaints filed by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union on behalf of the Wellness Connections’ employees.
