Renovation under way for MaineHealth office

Portland-based health care organization MaineHealth is planning to move some of its operations to a renovated mall in Scarborough.

Construction has begun on the former Orion Center, a 15.7-acre property that once housed retail and light industrial businesses and will become the MaineHealth Professional Park, according to the Portland Press Herald. MaineHealth, parent to more than a dozen other organizations, will relocate its Maine Medical Partners from South Portland by the end of the year, and move its NorDx diagnostic laboratory from another Scarborough location in the first quarter of next year. MaineHealth will also expand the Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute at the new professional park. When renovations are complete, the park will contain about 94,000 square feet.

The property, vacant for a few years, was bought in 2007 by Hannaford Bros. Co and then sold to MaineHealth in 2008.
