A report on the Indian gaming industry has found that Connecticut casinos are losing revenue to other New England facilities, including Hollywood Casino in Bangor.
The report found that Connecticut casinos, including the Foxwoods Resort Casino, saw losses in 2010 for the third straight year, according to the New London, Conn.-based The Day. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun generated $2.1 billion in 2010, a 4% drop over 2009. The report said that Connecticut is finding increased competition from casinos in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey, as well as racinos in Maine and Rhode Island. Hollywood Casino, formerly Hollywood Slots, is Maine’s only racino, and will become Maine’s first casino with the addition of table games later this month. Another casino is under construction in Oxford.
The Indian Gaming Industry Report, written by economist Alan Meister of Nathan Associates Inc., found that Indian gaming facilities nationwide in 2010 generated $267 billion in gaming revenue and $3.2 billion in nongaming revenue, up a little more than 1% from 2009.
