Report: Folk festival nets millions for Bangor

Last year's American Folk Festival brought Bangor about a $10 million boost in lodging, restaurant, gas, and retail sales last year, according to report released today by the University of Maine's Center for Tourism Research and Outreach.

The report, based on a series of questionnaires filled out by more than 300 festival goers, said most people were very pleased with the performances and the festival itself, but saw room for improvement in the quality of food and the available arts and crafts.

Nearly 93% said they were very likely to recommend the festival. An estimated 96,000 people attended the three-day event in August 2008.
