R.R. Donnelley lays off 370 in Wells

The bad economy claimed another victim today. R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. said it would close its catalog and direct-marketing printing plant in Wells and lay off 370 employees.

The Chicago-based company said it would close the former Spencer Press facility by mid June, according to the Associated Press. A spokesman for R.R. Donnelley told the AP that employees would be laid off in waves and would receive severance packages.

R.R. Donnelley acquired Spencer Press in November 2005. Spencer Press was founded in 1940 and, over the years, became a major employer in Wells.
