Searsport citizens stage fuel tank protest
Prior to final public hearings next week, over 100 Searsport residents gathered for a demonstration Saturday to protest a proposal for a 23-million gallon liquid propane tank.
WCSH6 reported that the protesters formed a human circle to demonstrate the 202-foot diameter of the proposed tank in advance of final hearings before the town's planning board on Jan. 16, 17 and 18.
Local approval is the final step for the project, which has received the go-ahead from Maine's Department of Environmental Protection and federal regulators.
