Southwest increasing seats from PWM to Baltimore
When Southwest Airlines comes to Portland, it plans to bring with it larger planes.
The airline announced Monday that it would begin service April 14 with three daily round-trips between Portland and Baltimore, which marks no change from the service the Southwest-owned AirTran currently provides, the Bangor Daily News reported.
But the larger planes mean 156 more seats daily between Portland and Baltimore and increased connections from Baltimore to 60 cities, which expands AirTran's current offerings.
Scott Carr, deputy director of the Portland International Jetport, told the BDN that getting on Southwest's route map is "an important strategic milestone" for the airport's development strategy.
Carr and airport Director Paul Bradbury spoke with Mainebiz last week about that strategy to court new airlines following on a three-day conference in Portland that hosted 12 airlines and 35 airports from across the Eastern United States.
