Two Maine ski resorts made it into the top 30 destinations in TurnKey Vacation Rentals’ ranking of more than 260 ski resorts in the United States.
Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley ranks 18th. Killington Ski Resort in Killington, Vt., (15th) is the only other New England ski resort to make it into the top 20. Sunday River in Newry ranks 28th.
In its rankings, TurnKey Vacation Rentals focused specifically on resorts with more than 15 named trails and created overall scores based on average ticket price, total number of trails and lifts, vertical drop, length of season, average snowfall and overall search volume (an indicator of popularity) for each specific resort.
The top three ski and snowboard states are Colorado, California and Utah, which host nearly 50% of the top 100 ski resorts in the U.S., according to the study. The analysis found that 77% of Colorado resorts are in the top 100 U.S. resorts, with 74% of California resorts and 83% of Utah resorts making the cut.
