Sugarloaf ski area has completed the $800,000 upgrade of a chairlift that rolled backward last season, injuring seven skiers, the Carrabassett Valley resort announced on Monday. The updated King Pine lift reopened on Monday at Sugarloaf.

Resort officials say the quad lift features a redesigned gearbox and the latest electronic, braking and anti-rollback technology. The towers and chairs were from the previous lift.

In June, Sugarloaf officials said in a press release that the terminal is part of more than $1.3 million in upgrades to the resort's lift infrastructure.

The new terminal runs at 450 feet per minute, with the ability to transport 2,100 skiers per hour. An additional 400 horsepower Cummins Diesel engine serves as an auxiliary power unit.
